Over the years, preferences regarding a family’s outlook on funerals and cemeteries has evolved to reflect each new generations desire. As technology increases, so does information availability for the average person who is simply doing a little research, or pre-planning, involving cremation.
Today, nearly one half of all funeral homes include the option for cremation, rather than a traditional burial. So why all of a sudden is the public looking more towards cremation as a final resting for their loved ones? The reasons are ongoing, but here are just a few:
-People are living longer( average life expectancy: male 73.3, female 79.6)
-Cremation is becoming more “acceptable” among religious groups( most religions allow cremation except for Orthodox Jewish, Islamic, Eastern Orthodox, and a few Fundamentalist Christian faiths)
-Environmental Concerns (Taking up less space)
-Level of education is rising (People are more knowledgable about cremation than ever)
-Cost of cremation is usually lower than traditional funerals
The simplicity and dignity of cremation, environemtntal concerns and the flexibility cremation affords in ceremony planning and final disposition all to add to it’s increasing popularity. Whatever the reason, more and more people are choosing cremations for themselves, and for their loved onces. The rate of cremations is rising as cultural taboos begin to fall away and modern realities shape funerary needs.
